Introducing a landmark restoration project at the heart of Dartmouth.
Retain. Restore. Build Thoughtfully.
Retain. Restore. Build Thoughtfully.
Behind the existing frontage lies a remarkable Grade II listed former warehouse, with origins dating back to the 14th century. Over time, the site has served many purposes in Dartmouth’s story: sail lofts, wine and cider storage, shipbuilding workshops and, more recently, a working builders’ yard. Each chapter has left its mark. Our emerging plans seek to carefully preserve and reveal this rich history, while creating a thoughtful mix of homes, independent commercial spaces, and courtyard areas, designed to bring a meaningful role to life in Dartmouth. Rather than replacing the past, we aim to uncover and restore it — securing the long-term future for generations to come.
At Mayor’s Avenue, The Stores represents an opportunity to restore and revive one of Dartmouth’s long-overlooked historic sites. Bringing new life to a place that has evolved alongside the town for centuries.
A new chapter for
this historic site
The plans for The Stores are being shaped by the character and history of the existing buildings. Sensitive restoration sits at the heart of the project, with plans focused on retaining original architectural features wherever possible and bringing neglected spaces back into meaningful use.
Alongside the restoration of the listed warehouse, the vision includes a small collection of carefully designed loft and courtyard homes, together with independent retail and hospitality spaces intended to complement Dartmouth’s existing character and local economy.
Every aspect of the project is being approached with longevity, craftsmanship and respect for the town’s architectural heritage in mind.
For centuries, this site has adapted alongside Dartmouth itself. Our approach is guided by a simple principle: retain where possible, restore where necessary, and build thoughtfully for the future.
Heritage first
By carefully repairing and reusing the existing buildings, The Stores seeks to preserve an important part of Dartmouth’s historic fabric while transforming an underused and deteriorating site into something enduring and valuable for the town.
